Concussion treatment Wichita KS

Pre and Post Concussion Testing

Did you know:
  • Concussions cannot be diagnosed with CT scans or MRI?
  • If you suffer a second concussion before you have recovered from a first concussion (called Second Impact Syndrome), the likelihood of permanent brain damage is dramatically increased?
  • The skull protects the brain from trauma, but does not absorb impact forces?
  • The number of reported concussions has doubled in the US over the last 10 years?
Bodyworx Physical Therapy is on the cutting edge of concussion treatment in Wichita, KS by offering Baseline Pre-Injury Concussion Testing, as well as Post Concussion Neurocognitive Testing and Rehabilitation. This is the same testing used by the NFL, MLB, MLS, and many other college and professional sports teams.

Get Your Life Back!

Balance testing for concussion Wichita KS So what is the difference between Baseline Testing and Post Concussion Testing?
  • Baseline Pre-Injury Concussion Testing is performed before an injury occurs. It is recommended that this be performed yearly for all athletes (just like you get a yearly sports physical). By having a Baseline test on file with us, if an athlete should suffer a head injury, we can perform post injury testing and compare it to the original Baseline test in order to determine safe return to activity. Our Baseline Pre-Injury Testing is the same testing used by the NFL, and takes under an hour to complete. For less than the cost of a new pair of athletic shoes, you can have peace of mind, that should you become injured, we will know what your “normal” is and help you get back to your peak performance.
  • Post Concussion Neurocognitive Testing Neurocognitive Testing is performed after a brain injury to help with the determination of safe return to school or work (sometimes called Return to Learn) as well as safe return to sports or play. If a client is having difficulty recovering from a concussion, special exercises can be performed to help lessen the symptoms associated with it. We have found that the patients going through this program see a dramatic improvement in their concussion symptoms, usually within the very first visit.

How does the concussion testing work?

Baseline Pre-Injury Concussion Testing is recommended once per year for athletes. Testing consists of two parts:
  1. Neurocognitive Test – This is a gold standard, cutting edge computerized test with the purpose analyzing your verbal/ visual memory as well as your motor speed and reaction time. This is an efficient way to determine functionality and allow for a safe return to normal activities. This is the same test used by professional sports teams.
  2. CTSIB Vestibular Test – This breakthrough technology allows for an accurate analysis of your vestibular system and balance using a computerized force plate. This multifaceted tool can determine stability and fall risk and may also be used in the rehabilitation process.
Post Concussion Neurocognitive Testing is recommended after a concussion and consists of 4 parts:
  2. CTSIB Vestibular Test -This breakthrough technology allows for an accurate analysis of your vestibular system and balance using a computerized force plate. This multifaceted tool can determine stability and fall risk and may also be used in the rehabilitation process.
  3. Clinical Neurological and Visual Testing – This consists of tests designed to test the senses, and their response to stimuli. Visual tracking, memory, concentration, and your body’s responses are all evaluated.
  4. Initial Treatment Session – You will be introduced to exercises and techniques designed to decrease your concussion symptoms. The goals of treatment include less headaches, improved concentration, decreased fogginess, improved balance, return to school, sports, and work.
What’s the next step? The sooner we can get started with treatment, the sooner you can get back to the life you love. Delay in treatment typically means a delay in recovery as well.
